Here's this report on FAHRENHEIT 451. I have heard that they are working on another rewrite in order to trim the budget down, which was allegedly well over the 100 million mark. The adaptation now deals with items like books on tape, cd-roms, dvd-roms, etc. Also in the drafts my sources have checked out, the people that memorize books... they aren't here it seems. Personally, I thought that was the brilliant angle in the book, the angle Truffaut exploited, of course a film about people that memorize books... well it ain't the most viable thing in the world, so Mel is focusing on the areas not yet discussed like the cool robot hound, the amazing fire house, trust and betrayl, what it is to be a fireman. Don't worry it won't be anything like THE POSTMAN for those that hated that.
I was reading the Cleveland Plain Dealer today from July 9th. In it, Mel Gibson talks about directing Fahrenheit 451..."We've adapted it for the 90's with this really cool screenwriter Todd Hayes who did Road Warrior...we depaterted from the book and went to the year 2035." Filming will commence next year with Mel directing, not starring. When addressed about a Braveheart II he said simply, "um, I died at the end of the first one."
