Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
I confess: I’m goofy in love with ATTACK OF THE CLONES. It gets worse as each day passes, not better. I thought I’d calm down, get over it a bit, but no. Instead, I continue to get more and more worked up.
One thing that’s got me going this morning is the last of the excellent behind-the-scenes videos that have been hosted by The Official Site. The new one is pretty great, and I would suggest that anyone who bitches about how everything is CG take a look at this. Once again, there are models in the film that you might never realize were models. ILM has raised the bar in a serious way with this film, and I could watch hours of this behind-the-scenes footage. I hope there’s tons and tons of it on the DVD when it’s released at the end of November.

And now, I have to share a brief anecdote with you. If you already know you don't like the film, just skip this and move along. These aren't the droids you're looking for.
Last night, my buddies and I adjourned a special meeting of the Jedi Council. This is a group of STAR WARS fans who wanted to get together to talk about AOTC now that we've had a week to pack in multiple viewings and absorb things. All told, there were about nine or ten of us. We got together at a private cigar club in Beverly Hills, our most frequent meeting place.
As my friend and I pulled up to the valet outside, there was a car in front of us, just arriving. The passengers got out, and as they did, I turned to John Robie and asked, "Hey, is that Temuera Morrison?"
He looked at me, incredulous. "Yeah... I think it is."
So of course I'm out of the car and on the move immmediately. Halfway to the door, I say, "Mr. Morrison?"
And Jango Fett... Jake the Mus... stops and turns around. "Yes?"
I introduced myself and told him how big a fan I am of ONCE WERE WARRIORS (a brilliant film I recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it yet), and then we both headed into the club. As we rode upstairs, John Robie having joined us by this point, we talked about ATTACK OF THE CLONES a bit. He was gracious and friendly, and once we got into the club itself, we wished him a good evening and went to sit with our friends.
Of course, everyone was excited when I mentioned he was there, and we decided to tell the waitress to put all of his drinks for the evening on our tab. We figured he might say "hello" as he left, but weren't really concerned about it. It was mainly a way of telling him how much we enjoyed him in the film.
He ended up coming over and sitting with us to enjoy a smoke, though, and turned out to be quite approachable and entertaining. Hearing him grouse about how odd it is to call a powerful Jedi "Ani" or how much he misses the grain of film in the "too-clean" digital image, it's obvious that he's not just one of those guys who spouts the party line. Instead, he was wickedly funny and every bit as cool as you'd hope.
And, yes, he thinks the Fetts have a bad habit of dying like bitches, too. Heh heh heh...
Anyway... I hope you’re having as good a time tripping back to that galaxy far, far away as I am right now.
"Moriarty" out.
