“Due to management failures beyond your control, this plant will be closing effective immediately! Good luck to all of you!”
“This was just your training ground! Your training is over! You’re coming home, son!”
“I can’t believe Whitney and Chloe are going to be out of our lives!”
“It’s built on lies and deceit. Any relationship with that foundation is destined to fail. We’re lucky we don’t have that problem.”
“I need you to look after her until I get back!”
“Hey, I like these guys!”
“We’ve got to get in the storm celler!”
“Jonahtan! Look!”
“I’m going to call Nell on my cell. You wait here.”
“Help me, Lex! Son, pleae!”

Smallville residents face tumultuous times when the town's major employer threatens to shut down as the series concludes its first season. The commotion starts when Lionel Luthor (John Glover) announces that the LuthorCorp plant is closing, despite turning its first profit in years. Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) suspects that the decision is his father's retaliation for Lex's rejection of an earlier offer to work in Metropolis, so he's not taking the news lying down. Meanwhile, Clark (Tom Welling) finds his personal life in turmoil when he learns disparate circumstances may cause both Chloe and Whitney to leave Smallville. A performance by the band Remy Zero is also featured.
We’ve no review, but here’s a set report from “Citizen Rain” we originally ran on May 9:
Hey Harry, this is my first scoop for you. I spent some time on the set of Smallville last week and while I do not have a script review I've got a spoiler loaded scoop on what happens. The episode is called "Tempest" and is directed by Greg Beeman one of the producers and frequent directors of the show.
Instead of the usual villian of the week this episode's action is derived from a series of tornados that hit the town during the big high school dance. There are number of major events and cliffhangers for this episode.
Lana Lang's boyfriend Whitney looks to be written out of the series as he quits school to join the army. Talk about a lame way to go.
Lex's father shows up to and stirs some shit up. He shuts down the Luthorcorp plant and buys the Smallville bank and threatens to foreclose the mortgages on Lex's employees as a way of payback for some of Lex's plots against his father.
Meanwhile a spy for Luthorcorp (I was unable to learn if he works for Lex or his Dad) has been spying on the Kents with some high tech surveillence gear and learns about Clarks powers. As the storm approaches he sneaks into the storm cellar and takes pictures of Clark's spaceship. As the storm gets closer the Kents run into the cellar and Jonathon surprises him...
Meanwhile Clark takes Chloe to the big dance and just as they are about to kiss Clark has to speed off to stop the tornado. Why he has to leave I'm not sure. Most likely its because in some contrived way its so he can rescue Lana Lang who gets sucked up into a twister after crashing her truck.
But the big cliffhanger is that during the storm Lex's dad gets pinned under debris and Lex has the choice of saving his life or not..
The episode looks to be pretty FX heavy. They were using wind machines for most of the time that I was there.
While that episode is done shooting, the series is still filming, they are shooting one more episode which revolves around the Kent's having money problems and Clark's rich grandfather shows up. My guess is that this episode is going to be the 2nd to last one and is being done so they have extra time to do the post production on Tempest.
The finale will also feature the band Remy Zero, who sing the title song "Save Me" they act as the band for the school dance. Also during the filming was Tom Welling's 25th birthday he got a big cookie from the crew.
That's everything I know. Sorry that I can't be more specific on the plot details but as I mentioned before I didn't have the script.
Call me Citizen Rain.
