DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS

Now we all know that Michael Mann is currently getting Mike Wallace angry as hell about his untitled Tobacco Lawsuit flick, but here comes some damn weird news/rumor that Mann has some pre-production work on the side concerning the DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS film. Bullshit? Possibly, but if it is, it's coming in through an ass-backwards pet door. I read an old draft, a very old draft of the flick that was basically an effects fest with weak characters that spoke way too hiply. Of course that just wouldn't jive with a guy like Mann that can direct a kickass flick like RUNNING THROUGH THE FOREST HALF NAKED (aka LAST OF THE MOHICANS) as I affectionately call it. I love that film, but one friend that hates it, dubbed it this, and ever since I have called it that. Mann is a great director when given the reins, and I'd love to see him tackle a project like this, but I have my doubts. What do you 'in the know' folk say?

This is Dick Upright and the Pork Chop Express talkin' to whoever is listen out there. The other day I was checkin' out a Dead Can Dance Web sight. Dead Can Dance is an Ambient/Gothic music group. The site talked about Lisa Gerrard, the lead female in Dead Can Dance, working on the score to Dungeons and Dragons. The report read "According to her label, 4AD Records, Gerrard is currently in her Australian studio working on a new as yet untitled track for the score to an upcoming Michael Mann movie, tentatively titled Dungeons and Dragons. The movie, which is expected to be released via Touchstone Pictures, has no release date, as it is still in the early stages." Michael Mann did Thief, Heat, Manhunter, and Last of the Mohicans. I had never heard that the Mann was even considering a D&D project. From what I know, Michael Mann is in the middle of that Tabacco film with Al Pacino and Russel Crowe. Maybe he has plans on doing a D&D movie in the near future, I don't know. If this is all true, he couldn't have picked a better person than Lisa Gerrard to do the score. If you've ever heard Dead Can Dance, you'd know that much of their music would be perfect for a Fantasy based film. There is no doubt in my mind that Michael Mann would do a hell of a Kick Ass job on a Dungeons & Dragons feature. I Like I said, I don't know if this bullshit or not. Could you confirm it?
