The Buzz on Bill Murray's SWEET SPOT!!

I am – Hercules!!

“We can do that. We don't even need a reason.”

Comedy god Bill Murray – the star of a TV series for the first time since bolting SNL in 1980?

“The Sweet Spot” is a five-episode comedy launching 10 p.m. Tuesday on Comedy Central.

TV Guide says:

Bill Murray and his brothers make up a foursome at the Grand Geneva Resort and Spa's Brute Course in Wisconsin, where they mix football and golf and splash around in water hazards and waterparks. Liberace: Ryan Stiles. Roger Montegomerie: Bruce Jarchow. Referee: Ed Murray. Cart Girl: Kelly Hazen. Native American: Robin Whitespear.

The Hollywood Reporter says:

… a wiggy party-cum-spoof that deliriously shreds pretty much everything that's sacred and holy about the great game of golf. From first hole through watering hole, from putting to puttering, this nutball half-hour takes the term "club hopping" to unapologetic depths of buffoonery … It also giddily revels in its political incorrectitude in a fashion that's rather akin to "The Man Show" were it to be moved outdoors. Unlike "Man Show," however, "Sweet" has moments of genuine hilarity factored into its testosterone-marinated sense of lunacy. … there's nonetheless something euphorically joyful about "Sweet" that proves contagious.

Entertainment Weekly gives it a grade of “B” and says:

Bill Murray is perhaps the funniest man alive. … some of the best golf comedy since we were treated to the zany antics of a little guy named Dorf.

(And speaking of certified comedy geniuses with their own TV series, an early reminder that tomorrow night there’s a Cleese-centric installment of ABC’s “Wednesday 9:30 (8:30 Central)” that we hear turned out pretty nicely. It airs opposite a new “West Wing” and a new “Greg the Bunny,” so you may want to buy another VCR or something.)
