Ok you muppet lovers, here's the news you've been thirsting for, so dig in, you'll like it...
Greetings, I was on your webpage recently and couldn't help but notice you have a lot of out of date Muppet movie info. To start with you don't have anything about the next Muppet movie "Muppets in Space". The low-down that I have is thus. It's being directed by Randal Kleisner (Grease) and written by Jerry Juhl. The stroy is about how the muppet join Space fleet and go to an alien planet where the aliens mistake Kermit as their leader and Kermit and the gang have to then save the earth. Shooting is supposed to take place in Australia, but first they have to work out all the kinks in the script and make it a little stronger.
Elmo Report: Amndi Patinkin and Vanessa Williams are supposed to appear in it as the villain Huxley and the Queen of Grouchland (repsepectively). The director is GAry Halvorson. And filming has moved down to Wilmington, NC.
On a sidenote there is a story going around that during one of the shots that called for a remote control Elmo, everyone's favorite ticklish monster malfuntioned and smoke started to fume out of his head.
Anything else you need to know? I know that Kevin Clash (Elmo), Frank Oz (Bert) Steve Whitmire (Ernie Carroll Spinney (B. Bird, Oscar) Marty Robinson (Telly) and Jerry Nelson are the performers and one can probably assume Fran Brill (zoe). However, Oscar's girlfriend Grungetta is NOT to appear. As for the other film Steve Whitmire, Frank Oz, Jerry Nelson, and Kevin Clash will head over after Elmo is done and be joined by Dave Goelz, Bill Barretta, and Brian Henson.
Finally, Muppets in Space will be the last film done with Disney before the muppets star t work for their new employers at Sony. Columbia (owned by Sony) is the distributor for the new Jim Henson Pictures which has a deal for three Muppet movies in addition to Elmo and a ton of other new projects in the works.
Use this info however you like I only ask you keep me anonymous. Also, you might be interested to know that Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are at it again in Odd Couple 3 which they will start filming this Sept.
