HEAVIER THAN HEAVEN Not In Development After All'!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

Okay. Our good buddy Garth over at Dark Horizons ran a story that we picked up about the development of HEAVIER THAN HEAVEN, the Kurt Cobain biography, into a film. Garth's original piece said that one of the two writers of PUMPKIN had been chose to adapt the script.

So what's this all about then?

Hey Dood-

I attended a reading by Charles Cross (Heavier Than Heaven) a while back when the kick-arse book came out (October-ish, if I can remember that far back) and we got to talking about films and he said that he would never option his book. So when I read the post on the Heavier Than Heaven film, I was distraught, to say the least. So I e-mailed Charles about the matter and hey, the dude has integrity after all. I shame myself for doubting him. Here's my mail to him, and his back to me leaving out all the chit-chat crap:

I've been reading on the internet that work is beginning on a film based on your book. Is this true? I was under the impression that you weren't going to option the book for film rights? Thanks!

And the jist of his note back to me:

Obviously what is on the Internet isn't frequently true, and certainly not true in this case, if you are refering to the Ain't It Cool story.

So there ya have it. It doesn't get straighter-from-the-horse's-mouth than that. If Broder is indeed working on a script, it's not only without Author-OK, it's without legal possesion of the rights, which is so-NOT how you go about a film adaptation. Hope it clears up any poopy involving the "film", or lack there of.

Lates!

So here we are, in an effort to see that maybe just a smidgen of what is on the Internet might be true, running this follow-up. I'm going to follow up a few other leads, but it sounds like if anyone would know whether the source material was optioned or not, it would be the author.

"Moriarty" out.
