Alias 1.14 FAQ

What’s it called?

“The Coup.”

Who’s responsible?

Teleplay credited to Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (“Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,” “Jack of All Trades”).

What does TV Guide say?

“As the team behind the attack on SD-6 targets Sloane's rival intelligence groups, Dixon and Syd hit Vegas to observe a K-Directorate who may be next in line for a lethal visit. But their mission is compromised by the unexpected arrival of Francie and her two-timing fiancé (Evan Dexter Parke). Meanwhile, Jack gets a chance to play dad to his daughter, who is having a hard time deciding her educational future.”

What is TV Guide not telling us?

The heads of FTL and K-Directorate are both assassinated this week. We learn in the opening moments that the first assassination essentially causes the collapse of the evil FTL.

The big surprise?

Francie and Syd have a big post-Vegas row.

What did Herc say about this episode in his Jan. 20 spoilers?

* While undercover as a Vegas cocktail waitress with Dixon, Syd will almost run into someone she knows –- someone who has no clue Syd is a secret agent.

* We will learn that the secrets pertaining to Francie’s man Charlie are not limited to his ability to sing.

* Francie will learn of perhaps Charlie’s biggest secret – much bigger than the singing secret – before episode’s end.

* Vaughn will get reamed by a superior for actions during Tarantino episodes.

* We will finally meet Ilyich Ivankov, the head of K-Directorate. FTL will offer him $10 billion for the Rambaldi artifacts K-Directorate has acquired.

* Syd will seriously contemplate giving up her dream of becoming a teacher, and her stern lit professor will try to talk her out it.

Did Herc’s sources get it right?

Not entirely.

What did Herc’s sources get wrong?

Vaughn is not reamed this week; he tells Syd he only got a slap on the wrist. Also: K-Directorate is only offered $100 million.

Does Haladki fume at the lack of disciplinary action taken against Vaughn?

Presumably. But Joey Slotnick’s character is absent this week.

I read at another site that Charlie’s big secret is that he was having a homosexual affair. True?

False. Charlie’s tryst was purely hetero.

Are you sure?

We meet his thing on the side, a hot black girl named Stella Campbell. There’s nary a hint of androgyny.

Do we learn what was in that perfume bottle Tarantino’s character stole?

No. That particular shoe is due to drop, we believe, in 1.16

Is Sloane still missing the finger?

It has been sewn back on.

Why does Syd want to give up her dream of teaching lit?

Now that Syd knows her mom was KGB - and that mom’s career as a lit prof was just a cover - Syd no longer feels as invested in the profession.

What’s up with reporter-boy?

Now that Kelly MacNeil is safely out of the country, her jailbird dad is willing to talk SD-6. The Ken Olin character sends Will Tippit to the offices of a former employer, OT Technologies. A server there has secretly recorded the names of all the people who ever used MacNeil’s encryption software: these are the people who set MacNeil up.

And what’s the name of MacNeil’s file containing the identities of the bad guys?

“Dolphin.”

What’s good?

Syd’s response when Will asks, “Who lives a double-life like that?” And how over-the-top hot Syd looks in the showgirl top and the nerd glasses. And Syd’s insane decision to tend to the Francie situation in the middle of an SD-6 mission.

What’s not so good?

Ken Olin ain’t exactly Quentin Tarantino.

How does it end, spoiler boy?

Syd is caught spying on Sark, who works for the same man McKenas Cole worked for.
