Hey folks, Harry here... As SXSW (the South By SouthWest) film festival is coming up here in Austin, I am delighted to see a trailer posted up over on Apple's Quicktime Trailer page that reminds of one of SXSW's shining films last year.... SCRATCH.
I'm not a huge hip hop fan, mainly due to lack of exposure, but watching this documentary last year definitely cultivated a finer appreciation for what the gods of this genre of music (folks like Mix Master Mike and DJ SMURF) do. As I watched this documentary I watched an artform birthed... I'd never considered scratching on a record as an art, but damn it all if it isn't. The music, the enthusiasm and the sheer infectious glee that this documentary has in unveiling and documenting the history of the form was just over-powering.
As this film opens up in select places around the country do not allow yourself to miss it, for this really is one of the finer flicks out there currently.
