Hey folks, Harry here... The folks over at Apple have put together a neat little page that has trailers in glorious Quicktime to all the nominees for this year's Oscars. So if you looked at the nominations the other day and wanted to know... What the hell was that? Well, this is the short and sweet way to see em all.
Then if you want to know everything there is to know about Oscar History, these are the two books I recommend. The first is 70 Years of the Oscar : The Official Guide To The Academy Awards by Robert Osborne. It is the dry, facts filled history that the Academy WANTS you to hear. It is important to have that book, because there is quite a bit of great behind the scenes on the Oscars, plus it is a beautiful book. However, my personal favorite Oscar book is Mason Wiley's Inside Oscar : The Unofficial History of the Academy Awards. That book has more of a sense of humor, plus it is willing to slam the Academy when it is needed. It is a nice contrasting book to hear two sides to the same story. I've flipped through other tomes on the Oscars in the past, but frankly they just haven't done anything for me.
Meanwhile, you Academy voters... vote for the real Best Picture, LORD OF THE RINGS: FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING! Why? So in twenty years you don't look stupid... so you don't make the Academy look stupid. The other nominees are good solid films, FELLOWSHIP will become a classic.
