Father Geek here with Tamsin's latest (#20) regular AICN Downunder Report. WOW! Maybe the oscars should be renamed THE ACADEMY DOWNUNDER AWARDS... 13 of them for LOTR:FOTR, man, that ties GONE WITH THE WIND (1939), FROM HERE TO ETERNITY (1953), MARY POPPINS (1964), and WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF (1966). Only ALL ABOUT EVE (1950) and TITANIC (1997) had more and they only had 14. That puts Jackson and crew in some real uber cool company. BEN HUR (1959) and TITANIC are tied as the biggest winners with 11 each, it would be really nice if Peter etc... could pull off an unseating of the Oscar Kings. However, keep in mind that both THE TURNING POINT (1977) and THE COLOR PURPLE (1985) with 11 nominations each ended up winning NO (0) Awards when all was said and done. That definitely won't be FELLOWSHIP's fate, Father Geek is personally betting on 10 statues for the film, but is hoping for at least 12 of them to go to the great fantasy epic. We'll see come March 24th.
