Hola, Father Geek aqui... Que tal, CineLocos? I received a couple of notes on Spain's GOYA Awards that I thought I would pass along to you here...
It is the first time that I write you and let me tell you that you and your site are the coolest on the net.
I think that you will like to know that "The Others" won last Saturday eight (8) awards at the Goyas, the equivalent to the Oscars in the USA, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay. Amenabar´s film was the top grossing movie in Spain last year and it was a real triumph to win the awards because there was a big fuss over the nationality of the film, but in the end justice won ( it is 90% Spanish ) and it had a BIG night.
The only sour note was that our beloved Nicole lost the Best Actress award to an spanish girl, Pilar Gomez de Ayala, a real discovery, in a movie called "Juana la Loca" that is the spanish selection for the Oscars; the girl is stunnig and she is NOT a Nicole Kidman but it was to ask too much to the members of the Spanish Academy as Nicole was the first foreign language actor EVER to be nominated for a Goya.
Juan Carlos Fresnedillo´s wonderful "Intacto" won the award for Best New Director and "Amelie" won for Best Foreign Film.
That´s all for now. Gracias amigo y adios desde España.
Cachi
PS : Sorry for my english (ejem, ejem)
Then I received this note a little later...
