Euro-AICN Special Report: Jean Giraud/Moebius' Arzak Rhapsody set to debut as animated French TV series...

Father Geek here with some great news for Comic Art lovers worldwide... This is something I've wished for the last 25 years, and I'm sure we'll be seeing the series over here in the states soon also... Morb comic work included one of my faves THE WORLD KILLER as well as ANGEL CLAW and the phantastical INCAL series. Most of you may know his film style from the HM movie but he also did design work on ALIEN, DUNE, TRON, BLADE RUNNER, WILLOW, THE ABYSS, MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE and, of course, the incredible look of THE 5TH ELEMENT. An extremely cool guy... Here's Poverty Robot and his welcomed report...

I just spotted this item in the news section of the website for the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée that's happening this coming week (1/24-27) in Angoulême, France. Angoulême's a huge city-wide international comic book festival. It's mostly about BD's (Euro Comics), but this year American creators are the featured guests, including Will Eisner.

I'm heading over in a few days, and am getting psyched for it. Check out the website at This Cool Spot .

Here's the item:

"France 2 diffusera prochainement en exclusivité la première série d'animation entièrement écrite, dessinée et réalisée par Jean Giraud-Moebius: "Arzak Rhapsody". Coproduite par WOLFLAND PICTURES et CARRERE GROUP (également distributeur), cette série sera composée de 14 épisodes de 3 minutes 30."

Which says:

"France 2 will soon release the first animated series entirely written, designed and directed by Jean Giraud/Moebius: "Arzak Rhapsody". It's co-produced with Wolfland Pictures and the Carrere Group (also the distributor). The series will be made up of 14 3 minute 30 second episodes."

Arzak (a.k.a. "Arzach", "Harzak", etc) is the Moeb's flying-dinosaur-riding character who originally appeared in the USA in the HEAVY METAL comic/illustrated magazine, our version of Europe's METAL HURLANT magazine, and was later reprinted by various American publishers. Moeb also designed the Taarna sequence of the original HEAVY METAL animated feature flick.

Personally, I hope they keep the 2D look of the comics, rather than doing it as 3D animation, but there's no way of telling from this item.

If you use this (probably in the Euro section, I guess), call me:
