Digital Domain to Create The Artist's Journey for Experience Music Project Renowned Digital Production Studio, Interactive Music Museum Team to Create One-of-a-Kind Experience

VENICE, CA - Oct. 2, 1997 - Digital Domain, the world famous digital production studio, has been retained by Experience Music Project (EMP) to conceptualize, create and develop The Artist's Journey.

Experience Music Project, the 130,000 square-foot interactive music museum opening in Seattle in 1999, will offer visitors a variety of interactive and traditional exhibits, hands-on technology, educational programs and live performances celebrating the creative process in American popular music. The separately ticketed Artist's Journey element of EMP will immerse approximately 125 music lovers per "performance" in a powerful visual and auditory experience, following the "path" taken by many of the music world's greatest artists. From their earliest discovery of music and commitment to a "musical life," to a professional career and the realm of real artistry, a variety of a musician's most exciting, unpredictable and indefinable moments will be explored. The multimedia program will end with a live "virtual" performance grand finale featuring the chosen artist(s) for that particular show program.

"By developing a staged 'ride-like' experience in the museum, we will give our visitors a compelling and powerful way to explore and enjoy the musical content that will be presented," said Jody Patton, executive director of Experience Music Project. "Digital Domain has the right blend of creative and technological expertise to develop this one-of-a-kind experience.

"The goal of The Artist's Journey is to create an immersive and emotional experience that opens a doorway for the visitor into the creative process in music making - a process that enriches the lives of both performer and audience alike," said Ed Ulbrich, Senior Vice President, Production, Digital Domain. "The stories found in these experiences remind us all that music is an accessible and universal language, as well a something that defines us as individuals, communities and entire generations."

"This project - and EMP as a client - offered us the opportunity to create something absolutely unique in the world," elaborated Scott Ross, Digital Domain President and CEO. "An audience experience that will utilize the advanced visual vocabulary and technical tools of cutting-edge feature film and commercial content merged with state -of -the-art theatrical rock 'n' roll and location-based physical and scenic effects."

The Artist's Journey follows Digital Domain's first location-based film attraction, "Terminator 2 - 3D." "T2-3D" premiered - in June 1996 - as the highest-rated attraction in Universal Studios Florida's history.

"There are few studios in the world that contain the creative and technical talent to even aspire to The Artist's Journey," said Friend Michael Wells, who will direct Digital Domain's project staff. "Digital Domain houses both disciplines under one roof and allows its artists the creative freedom to make it a reality."

Over its four-year history, Digital Domain has cultivated relationships with several key musical talents. Beginning with the 1994 multiple Grammy and MTV Music Video award-winning music video "Love is Strong," for the Rolling Stones and director David Fincher, and later "Ghosts," for pop star Michael Jackson and director Stan Winston, the company has made select musical projects a strategic and vital component of its overall slate of signature work.

The studio is currently in production on a new music video for the Rolling Stones, directed by Sam Bayer.
