Yup, because all of us American Apes just can't conceive of what SHAOLIN means. Because KUNG FU 'pops' more. Because the audience can't be allowed to be confused. Because SHAOLIN SOCCER isn't like a beautiful phrasing of alliteration. Because the original title doesn't friggin matter. Because it's cheap and easy and every one of we monkey 'tards gets it.
FUCK THAT!
I will not go to a theater to see a movie titled KUNG FU SOCCER. Not even for free. I would go see SHAOLIN SOCCER in theaters like 5 times inside of a week if it were in theaters.
God forbid they market it with the original title. Hell, it is just a title, why not change it from a title that actually sounds good when you say it, to something that sounds so completely retardedly banal that it makes you want to puke.
Ya know, they'd make more money by calling AMELIE.... SHE NEEDS TO GET LAID! Or can you imagine how much LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL would have made if it had been titled CONCENTRATION CAMP CHILDHOOD! On the rerelease of BELLE DU JOUR they could have called it THE HORNY CHICK. THE COOK, THE THIEF, THE WIFE & HER LOVER could have really gone places as KINKY SEX! BLUE could have been far more marketable as ONE WEEPY GAL! WHITE would have gone crazy with the title THE IMPOTENT HUSBAND! Oh and of course RED should have been called NEEDY WENCH!
Yes yes... OBVIOUS TITLES... Because obviously actually selling or communicating what a film is ... well, that's just way too hard. WAY TOO HARD. Creative marketing be damned. Let's just wallow in the lowest common denominator. MIRAMAX PLEASE DON'T DO THIS!!!
Hey, Harry. I don't know if this is news to you or not, but since you're the one who brought this great movie to my attention I figure I ought to make sure. I was looking over KFCinema's news page. In the last update was a short article on the US theatrical release of Shaolin Soccer. Apparently the release date is April 5th and it's still up in the air whether or not it'll be subtitled. The thing that has me steamed is that Miramax will, according to this article, be changing the title to Kung Fu Soccer. (shrugs) You're guess is as good as mine, Harry.
From one
Austinite to another.
As one Talk Backer suggests... KUNG FOOTBALL, ugh... or how about KUNG FUtball Or is that just so folks in England can understand it? God only knows what else they might be doing to this. The movie is perfect as is. STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM IT!
