Hey folks, Harry here. Over the past 6+ years of doing AICN I've had a chance to get some really cool stuff in my email. However, getting advance scans from Alex Ross of his conceptual artwork for this year's ACADEMY AWARDS poster... Well, that's just frickin awesome. Anyone that has spent endless hours at AlexRossArt.Com knows not only how great Alex Ross is, but also where to shop for Harry Knowles (me)! Alex Ross is simply the greatest comics illustrator to come along in quite some time. He's changed the way I've looked at comics forever. For the better I feel. From MARVELS to KINGDOM COME to the oversized comic editions of DC characters that he's done with Paul Dini.... Alex has simply been amazing.
Now Oscar was hanging out on a shelf with one of Alex's Superman and Logan busts, when they both showed Oscar some of Alex's illustrations and paintings. Oscar was impressed, called up the Academy ranting about how he wanted to be painted by this Alex kid! Alex, of course, being a fan of the golden one decided to paint him. He had Oscar strike multiple poses for him, and he did initial concept pencils to nail down what he wanted to do with that guy. Here are the results of 4 of those.
God (aka Alex) willing, we'll have the finished work soon. Can't wait. God I want that second pencil! Sweet as hell! But I'll settle for the whole group. Ahem. Ahem...
