Hey folks, Harry here... this review is sort of all over the place on the film, and it has some spoilers, but ya know... it stars a hair doll much like mine, and this is the first movie that I'll be able to take my hair doll to and be able to snuggle and enjoy a film we both have so much in common with. I'm choking up just thinking about it. I'm so giddy. So happy. So shocked that I'm even remotely thinking about seeing this thing... but heck, why not... it's only parts of my life I can never get back.

I just got back fm. the Block at Orange where. The invitation said to arrive at 6:30 (one hour before the 7:30 screening). Well that was my first "mistake" When I arrived I found myself at the back of a verrry long long line. I roughed it hoping not to be shoved into the front row and leave with a neck brace. They filtered almost everyone in line (in front of and behind me and my company) into the theater! “Well fuck” I though this is gonna be great!! But again I stuck it out. "Ok come with me croaked an assistant" "Following the leader to the shittiest seats in the world!" I sang out while walking into the theater. Hmm the front section was full where was I being taken to? “Sit right there, and leave one space between you and those men… oh ya and don’t talk to them!” All of a sudden I found myself sitting right next to about 13 suits! How cool was this! I plugged my left ear and listened in to the obviously very important men of Hollywood chat happening directly one seat away to my right. One with a big full white beard real big older fellow and another guy I think a producer maybe. I over heard them discuss the trouble they’ve been having with the title of the movie amongst other things. The lights went down and the groundlings cheered.
Ok now to the God Damned movie!!! Slackers Originally titled the Hook Up amongst other I've seen it listed as The Best and the Brightest on IMDB. Its written by new comer David H. Steinberg fresh out of USC film school ohh lala! He is also wrote American Pie II (but that’s a whole different dog) It is directed by a first timer as well Dewey Nicks. Who went to Washington University (the one In ST Louis) and is a fashion photographer and has directed some commercials. The Plot Devon Sawa and his two buddies own their college they know the ins and outs. Cheating is a regular practice for the boys. All is well until Devon fucks up side tracked mid cheating by the lovely James King of MTV House of Style Fame. Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore) who plays a sort of psychotic neurotic obsessive guy named “Cool Ethan”who is just one taco short of a combo meal. When Devon steals Ethan’s seat for a final exam Cool Ethan goes nuts. We soon find that Cool Ethan is obsessed with Angela. Through many strange twists Ethan finds enough evidence to get the boys kicked out of school unless they hook him up with Angela.
The best way I can describe this movie is “It’s a American Pie but we don’t really like any of the characters” In American Pie we see Jim go through a whole bunch of shit that brings us closer to him and care for him and want him to excel and score. While this movie is Funny and is comprised of several clever and outrageous funny scenes theres those ligaments that are missing It has a lot of meat but little bone holding the framework.
The movie wasn’t finished but I got a good enough of an idea. Should you see this movie? Well if you liked Road Trip this is right up your alley. Overall there are some weak performances and a disappointing choice on Mr. Schwartzmans behalf in taking this roll where his character looms somewhere between awkward and sort of funny. He had an untattered record leaving Rushmore and He almost undid all good that he did in Rushmore by taking part. Jason Segel and Mike Marrona however were believable funny and likeable. The script was pretty weak and the love story side plot even weaker. Highlights-well if I told you any this movie would have nothing going for it. But how bout this….. Blow Jobs, Sponge bathes, Penis Puppets, and lots of Masturbation.
