Dreamworks: ANTZ, IN DREAMS, PRINCE OF EGYPT!!!

This comes from a spy that has seen the exact same Dreamworks presentation that I have seen. Why print it? Well because it's a separate set of eyes. Enjoy...

Long time listener, first time caller. Um...My Name? Call me Talus (guardian of Crete).

Was at a presentation by some folks from Dreamworks today (I'm an exhibitor) and got to see some footage from a couple of their flicks. Small Soldiers was just the trailer, but a new one is shipping apparently. Same with Saving Private Ryan. According to these marketing folks, a screening for the military had to be stopped after the Normandy scene to allow the audience to "compose themselves" with similar stories coming from the scoring sessions (throughout the film this time). We didn't see anything new, but there's a new trailer available.

Saw the ANTZ preview (I think) the one with Zee talking to his shrink? I never saw the trailer that was supposedly out there, but... It's great! Then we saw a 4 minute clip called "Shoe To Shoe Rescue" (that's the scene name) where Zee has to rescue his girlfriend from the gum on the bottom of a kids shoe. Great action, nice textures and stuff, but the animation was weird. Donna...Didn't care for it somehow.

Saw the trailer for "In Dreams" (working title) the Neil Jordan film. This thing looks FANTASTIC and scary. Kind of like a Nightmare on Elm Street (dreams) or Dreamscape and the Exorcist mix. Nice trailer. Dunno if this trailer will be released.

My favorite part of the presentation was "The Prince Of Egypt." We saw the opening 7 minutes and the trailer that was run at ShowWest. Harry, I'm not a religious man, but this movie may make me convert. The opening is of a bunch of slaves building the Sphynx and the pyramids etc (nice look) and the release of baby Moses into the river. A nice song sung by his mother as his basket floats down the river, miraculously avoiding all manner of disasters and being picked up by Pharoahs wife (sorry, names don't mean much to me). The water in this sequence is amazing CGI work, as is the basket. The basket floated a bit like the music box in Anastasia, but looked better.

Dreamworks has really out done themselves on this feature. The second part we saw was a traditional trailer, almost Disney-esque since it contained incomplete footage. Moses and Rameses in a chariot race, and a bunch of other stuff. Nicely filmed. The best part has to be the Red Sea footage, as they called it. Apparently this 4-minute sequence has been 4 years in production, with 318 000 (yes, 318 THOUSAND) hours of render time. Harry, it took my breath away! As Moses and crew walked through the parted waters, you could see creatures (a whale!) in the water on the sides. This second trailer is even BETTER than the first part we saw. This movie will be huge!
