NEW YORK FILM CRITICS CIRCLE AWARDS ANNOUNCED!!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

Awards season has begun. I can tell because of the ritual suicides taking place in the streets of LA as people don't get the awards they wanted. This year is, in my opinion, going to be one of those years when anything can happen. You're not going to see any two lists that look alike, and by the time we reach the gay SuperBowl in March (also known as the Oscars), it's going to be entirely up for grabs.

Last week we had the National Board of Review weighing in, and now it's the NYFC Circle. Check this list out:

2001 NEW YORK FILM CRITICS CIRCLE AWARDS

BEST PICTURE: "Mulholland Drive"

BEST DIRECTOR: Robert Altman, "Gosford Park"

BEST SCREENPLAY: Julian Fellowes, "Gosford Park"

BEST ACTOR: Tom Wilkinson, "In the Bedroom"

BEST ACTRESS: Sissy Spacek, "In the Bedroom"

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Steve Buscemi, "Ghost World"

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Helen Mirren, "Gosford Park"

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Christopher Doyle and Pin Bing Lee, "In the Mood for Love"

BEST FOREIGN FILM: "In the Mood for Love"

BEST DOCUMENTARY FILM: "The Gleaners and I"

BEST ANIMATED FILM: "Waking Life"

BEST FIRST FILM: "In the Bedroom"

Well, then. Nothing I expected on that whole list. Hell, I haven't seen GOSFORD PARK or IN THE BEDROOM yet, so I have no idea what I think of these choices.

Sounds like I've got me some viewin' to do.

"Moriarty" out.
