Here's more info on "Dogma," courtesy of the Cosmic Co-Ed, who also includes an interesting tidbit on "Lord of the Rings."
Hey Harry, just wanted to fill you in on some other things that were said at Kevin Smith's appearance at Ohio State University. When asked if Peter Jackson's WETA did the effects for "Dogma," he said no partly because New Zealand was on the other side of the world (LA was closer) and something about WETA probably being busy with "Lord of the Rings." Maybe he was just repeating the rumors, but considering his relationship with Bob and Harvey, I don't know. That small amount of "Dogma" footage was amazing. The performances from Ben and Matt looked top notch. We had a quick look at Jason Lee looking cool as hell dressed all in white (everybody has got to love this guy). We also saw one especially beautiful evening scene involving Linda Fiorentino and Alan Rickman in which Rickman was walking on water. My God, I cannot wait.
You said it! "Dogma" has got "cool" written all over it. As for that other film, well, hear me now and believe me later -- Jackson is directing ""Lord of the Rings" in New Zealand for Miramax. End of story. (And anyone who tells you a "Hobbit" film is being made is a liar, plain and simple.)
Now, here's news from The Indelible Bulk on the film adaptation of my favorite comic book of all time -- MAGE: The Hero Discovered. In the hands of Kevin Smith (whose Silent Bob character bears an non-coincidental likeness to Kevin Lindbergh Matchstick), this film could totally rock, and become an instant classic. If you've never read this book, track it down. You owe it to yourself. Matt Wagner is a god among men.
I had a lengthy conversation with Matt Wagner about this project a week or so ago. Matt says that Kevin is very excited to get to work on the script but that he still has a few projects to finish up, like the new "Fletch" script.
Also, Vince Vaughn (Lost World, Locusts, Swingers) has discussed the Kevin Matchstick role with Wagner and after a meeting between the two, Wagner said he felt very positive about him for the part.
Wagner squashed the rumor that Robin Williams was being pursued for the role of Mirth, saying that he felt the actor wasn't right for the part and that there had been "no contact of any kind" with Williams or his agents.

Curiouser and curiouser... Don't know what I think about the Vince Vaughn idea. I'll have to sleep on it. But I seem to remember seeing a nearly completed "Mage" screenplay adaptation lying around here somewhere that's pretty darn good, in case Mr. Smith or Mr. Wagner would like a look-see (hint-hint!).
