The Wonderful Flick THE INDEPENDENT in New York'

Hey folks, Harry here... Now you may remember when Tom Joad, Peter Blood, Claire Standish, Flesh Gordon and our buddy Norm all told you about the flick... THE INDEPENDENT. Hell, you might even remember when Tom Joad interviewed Ginger Lynn Allen about her stunning portrayal of the Mayor in... well... that'd be telling wouldn't it? Stephen Kessler directed this film, which literally feels like A KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE! The movie just kicked a lot of ass and was genuinely funny as hell. Well, it has taken forever, but Kessler has finally gotten distribution for this flick... Right now I believe it is only playing in New York and Los Angeles... But never fear... It seems to be expanding, but you folks in NY and LA... Go check it out... its a beaut. Here ya go....

The Independent

I got to check out this hilarious little indie film starring Jerry stiller and Janeane garafelo. Now I know already many of you would be rolling your eyes because the mention of these two (let alone garafelo) but instead of treading over his role of George Costanza's father over and over. Stiller breathes comedic life into the role of Morty Fineman, a financially bereft director and producer of over 400 schlocky B-movie classics such as "foxy chocolate robot," "Whale of a cop" (featuring Ben stiller in one of his funnier roles) and his epic-waterworld-jab at kevin costner-film "the whole story of america" what's happening is with last said movie he went over budget and lost all the profit.

The banks are now trying to buy his complete film library (8 bucks a pound). And while Fineman is trying to work on his greatest film yet, the life story of a convicted serial killer absolute mayhem ensues.

Effective and generally laugh inducing part mockumentary/part satire this movie will having you laughing your ass off with selected scenes from fineman's vast film library.

All of which are reminiscent of "the kentucky fried movie" each film clip outdoing the other. The cast is excellent in this well-written film, even Janeane garafelo whom i got tired of years back plays the role she was born for, the bitchy, neurotic daughter (Paloma) who is thrust back into her father Morty's life due to his financial situation.

Cameos by actual directors were a plus (Ron Howard, Peter bogdonavich etc) All in all a movie that is a blazing comedy, and satire on making it in the biz with your wits first and your talent lacking seriously behind. Seriously check this out it's well worth the time.

it's playing at United Artists 14 Union Square in New York city.
