Ad Man wrote in with this review of Eddie Murphy's latest foray into comedy remake-land. It's relatively spoiler-free and springtime fresh!
Just thought I'd write in my review of "Dr. Doolittle" with Eddie Murphy. My sister-in-law was telling me that she gets a lot of these free preview passes sent to her at work and I told her "bring em' on." Needless to say four of us got to go see the flick on Saturday morning at 11:00am. Kinda early and also made me miss my Japanese Animation flick AKIRA on Sci-Fi channel. Oh well.
Anyway, it was at the Cinemark Tinsletown USA. Before the show started some dude walked to the front and told everyone that it was a pre-screening and we were basically a test audience but the film was pretty much completed and to enjoy. No survey cards or anything.
The show is good. Though it probably could've done without Ellen DeGeneres' voice as the dog in the beginning and Raven Samone (I think she used to be a Cosby kid) as the oldest daughter of Eddie Murphy. She was just annoying. No other word for it.
It starts off with Eddie as a kid sitting in the lawn of his front yard talking to his dog, voiced by Ellen. His dad worries about him talking to the dog and he has a priest come to the house and try to exorcise a possible demon spirit out of little Eddie. As the priest shakes the demon out of him the dog, Ellen, takes this as a sign of attack and she begins to bite the priest. Right after that you see her getting driven away by the impound unit. Good riddance. I thought she'd be in the whole flick, but Norm McDonald is the one that speaks to him throughout the show. That was FUNNY.
After that it forwards to him as an adult and a doctor of people, not animals, but after he has a car accident trying to avoid a dog (Norm McDonald) from getting hit he hits his head in the accident and can now hear animals speaking again.
All in all a good show except for what was mentioned above. It's pretty much classic Eddie Murphy humor without the cursing cause it's mainly geared for a family audience. Believe me there were tons of kids there from 2-10 years old.
