Caller From LA chimes in on $20 MILLION!

Hey folks, Harry here with long time AICNer, Caller From LA, who has the skinny on a film called $20 MILLION. No real spoilers and quite short, but very to the point. As is his regular style. Here ya go....

Here's a review for a minor film, feel free to post or dump in the bit bucket.

---

'The First $20 Million' is directed by Mick 'L.A. Story' Jackson and written by Jon Favreau and Gary Tieche, based on the novel by Po Bronson. It stars Adam Garcia as the engineering marketer who decides to follow his fathers motto of changing the world for the better. Enrico Colantoni plays the greedy engineering guru who doesn't want Adam to succeed for a number of reasons.

This film is today's 'Real Genius', without the megawatts of charisma oozed by a young Val Kilmer. Lots of nerds with quirks, pranks, computer engineering jazz ala Hackers, etc. Whereas 'Genius' is set on a campus in the 1980s, '$20 Million' is set at the fictional La Honda Institute, where the smartest people work on the state-of-the-art projects, all amongst the dot com bust.

Once again, as with 'Real Genius', there's a touch of heart between the laughter. Unfortunately, they stayed too long on these touchy-feely scenes, and as a result, the film itself it a bit too long. A good editor could make this film go from Fair to Good.

This film would best be released in 2020, when the dot com bust would be retro - it could be 2020's version of Grosse Point Blank or Romy and Michelle's.

Note: This film is not to be confused with Michael Tolkin's '$20 Billion', which will be more of a parody of Gates and Microsoft, and will probably be better than $20 Million'.

Cheers,
