Of Jedis and Zorro!

Good ol Moriarity here comes in with this piece on why, if and when there is no trailer for EPISODE ONE with X-FILES: FIGHT THE FUTURE, well you shouldn't get blue, you should go check out THE MASK OF ZORRO. Why, well, I'll let Moriarty tell ya that. More from Moriarty later today....

Hey, Head Geek....

"Moriarty" here.

I just wanted to take a quick break, stretch my legs, get a breath of fresh air. It's hard work respackling a dungeon. My henchman's a hunchback, and it just doesn't feel right making him do it. I may be an evil genius, but I'm not an asshole.

It occurred to me the other day that people who are manic about whether or not there's going to be an Episode One teaser in front of X-FILES (I'd bet they're not going to make it) are missing the point. There's going to be something this summer that is even better than a teaser, a real taste of what to expect, something with substance.

I'm talking, of course, about THE MASK OF ZORRO.

What?!?! How can ZORRO be seen in any way, shape, form, or fashion as a preview of the Prequels? Shh, puny-brained ones. Don't get upset. I'll explain. Go to the official STAR WARS site and read the wonderful interviews with Nick Gillard. The guy is a wonderful craftsman, and an extraordinary fight choreographer. His work on ZORRO is the main reason to see the movie. When it comes time for swordfights, ZORRO delivers. It's the most exciting fencing I've seen in a modern movie since PRINCESS BRIDE, and it's easily better than that stuff. It really does convey character and story as well as just kick ass as action. Gillard himself is the double for Anthony Hopkins in the outstanding first sequence, the old Zorro's last ride. It's wonderful swashbuckling, and Gillard pulls it off with wit and grace.

The first trilogy isn't really known for being the greatest swordplay movies ever. The first film barely even uses the lightsabers. With the Jedi Knights in action, though, in the Prequels, we're going to see some eye-popping fight sequences. As you watch ZORRO, imagine the hum of a lightsaber. Imagine Ewan and Liam moving like this. You will get very, very excited about the Prequels if you do, and it will hopefully give you the same kind of buzz it gave me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to it. I'm expecting to have some execs over soon, which means the dungeon's simply got to be done, so, for now...

"Moriarty" out.
