AICN COMICS: Paul Dini's JINGLE BELLE Exploding Across The Country With Christmas Joy and an itsy bitsy bit sarcasm!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... Now everynow again a press release is sent to me that seems random and bizarre. Why would WickedCoolStuff.Com send me a press release about Paul Dini's JINGLE BELLE... Well, I know the thought pattern of the concept, they show it to me, and maybe I post details about it and they get added coverage and exposure from it.

But I get dozens and dozens of things like this a day which I send directly to my DELETED MAIL FOLDER, but not this one. Why? Well quite simple, I'm a JINGLE BELLE fan.

Sure, I also happen to be a friend of Paul Dini's, but frankly folks, I was a fan of Paul's work far before I ever even knew the man. When Paul sent me my first copy of JINGLE BELLE years ago I was excited as all get go, as here was a new female character from the genius that created HARLEY QUINN.

You see, Paul understands the appeal of adorably energetic fetishistically dressed females in adorably iconic male fantasized imagery from that 1950's subscriber of PLAYBOY mindset. Paul Dini is a guy that understands the appeal of Betty Page with her leopard. So he creates Jingle Belle with her Yak. You see the genius?

You see, the universe that Paul Dini is creating for JINGLE BELLE is a wondrous innocent universe that acknowledges the passage of time and styles, but that grabs hold of those ideals and wide-eyed wonder of the 1950's. They are stories told today as if Vietnam and Nixon never tarnished our fragile little collective national ego. There is a passage of time in the style of stories that were told in the years since those original classic tales. Jingle is definitely a modern gal, but at the same time... It is a pure universe that is changed, but still pure.

To give you an idea, in his upcoming Christmas Issue of JINGLE BELLE, Paul is going to be introducing us to a host of characters that he's going to be shooting off, my favorite of which (besides Jingle Belle) is IDA RED. Ya see, she exists in the same universe as Jing, but in Texas.

A Texas that has suffered a strange nuclear accident, MUTANT, TEXAS to be exact. This isn't a TROMA story... It's a universe where a character as epic as Pecos Bill or Paul Bunyon or John Henry lives. The critters grow to double their size and become all smartified.

From what I've seen it is a great issue, soon to be added to my collection.

What I love about Jingle Belle is here is a character that is instantly a new layer to the Christmas legend. The Christmas that is founded around Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. You see, Jingle Belle is instantly in league with these notorious spreaders of Christmas cheer.

You see, Santa Claus goes all over the world giving presents to good boys and girls, but in his own house... He has a naughty teenage daughter that's tired of living a cute little happy life filled with Elves and Reindeer... She's a modern teenage girl with hormones... Well that's what she thinks. Fact of the matter is she is an immortal teenage girl that can't help but be Christmas-y no matter what. She may try to update her fashion, but it just can't help but be cheery. She could never pull off the Goth look, because there would always be a dash of poinsettas and holly... Because she is hard-wired for Christmas.

She may claim to be sick of it, but she loves it so. It's kinda like me... I love Halloween, the deep dark monsters and spooky creepy stuff. I love my hard edge crime films and ironic cynical twisted cinema. But in my heart of hearts... I'm a Christmas person. Above my bed is a mobile of Santa Claus with a space jet pack chasing a runaway space satellite around Earth. I stuck last year's Jingle Belle Christmas ornament right smack in the middle of it all. It is a pure joy in my room of joys.

This year I will most certainly be adding the new JINGLE BELLE head nodder. One, it's one of them there nifty FUNCO HEAD NODDERS like my RatFink and Betty Boop and Tiki Elvis head nodders. Let's face it... Head Nodders are just really cool. And some people even date them.

Yup, This year I'll add to my Jingle Belle collection and ya know... This stuff is everybit as much fun as the best of those Christmas special joys of yesteryear. I just wish Gene Autry was around to write the song for my JINGLE BELLE LITTLE GOLDEN BOOK with 45 Record In The Jacket!!! This Christmas is my third Jingle Belle Christmas, I look forward to many more in the future... And the inevitable Rankin Bass style TV show or Epic Christmas Film... Well... I can dream.
