DMANN reviews GILMORE GIRLS 2.4!!

I am – Hercules!!

You wanted! You got! A real, live Coax review of Herc’s third-favorite show in production. Here’s the aptly named Dmann:

THE ROAD TRIP TO HARVARD

Before w e get into the whole this episode plot thing, let me just say, I am an unabashed fan of Gilmore Girls.. I love the Aaron Sorkin-ish dialogue, Lauren Graham, the cast, Lauren Graham, the setting, and did I mention Lauren Graham. So that said. Great show, happens to be on opposite BUFFY right now, but I suppose that’s better than opposite

So Lori (the mom) and Rory (the daughter) have run away from mom’s impending nuptials , on a road trip to a B&B that would “make Liberace step back and say, whoa a little too gay”. This is perfect, because it gives Lori an excuse to complain, and avoid the whole “running away from my wedding” part. Lori and Rory, stranded in a Martha Stewart world. Thankfully, the girls escape, and head for the school that book geek Rory dreams of going to, Harvard. Rory gets to gawk at the extensive Harvard-ness of Harvard. Lori gets to use the word existentialism in a sentence (something she’s always wanted to do.)

This episode is basically a spotlight on the main two characters, with very small but good bits from Luke (Scott Patterson) and Sookie (Melissa McCarthy), Emily (Kelly Bishop), no sign of the kids from Chilton Prep, Dean, or Richard Gilmore. That’s too bad, the supporting characters on this show are just amazing.

Back to Lauren Graham, not only is she the most radiant woman on TV, she balances rapid fire wise cracks and some actual real emotional issues with grace and natural ease. Alexis Bledel is likewise perfect, she is the first TV daughter since Darlene on Roseanne that I actually believe is her mothers daughter. Then again, Sherman-Palladino worked on Roseanne, so not really surprising.

Use that VCR the way you use it on Sunday, because this is a great show.
