DEEP IN THE WOODS... French Horror Worth Looking Out For'!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

As I’ve said before, the greatest thing about working at AICN is getting letters like this where someone brings some little film you’ve never heard of to your attention. This is how we find out about these little gems that would otherwise be totally forgotten. If anyone else has seen this film (known in French as PROMENONS NOUS DANS LES BOIS, write in and let us know if it’s as good as Mr. Shoreditch says...

Hi there,

I can't remember ever seeing a review of this film on your website, so thought I would just send something in. It's a French horror film (translates as Deep in the Woods) with some great scenes and, if it's not destined to get a release in the US, I would order it on DVD.

It's about a group of travelling actors and actresses who are hired to perform a play for a guy and his son who live in a huger chateau/castle thing in the middle of the woods. The only other person in the house is a weird gamekeeper (played by the guy who played the lead in Beau Travail). As they arrive at the house they hear on the car radio that a killer has escaped from prison/mental asylum and is loose in the area. The interesting thing is that the actors put on a performance of Little Red Riding Hood after which the killer steals the mask of the wolf and begins slaughtering everyone. The film is rich in imagery (particularly of the woods and the wolf) and, while being a little silly, manages to make the viewer jump a few times. If you like the idea of teens chased through the woods and stalked around a mansion by an unseen wolf-man, this could be the movie for you.

If you like horror, especially teen horror, then this is well worth a look. Anyway, if you've already heard/reviewed this, then file this email under B for bin. Otherwise, hope you manage to catch this film.

Cheers,

mr_shoreditch.

Thanks, man. Always on the lookout for good horror, and now I’ll keep my eyes open for this one.

"Moriarty" out.
