"Baran" is the story of Afghan refugees told through the eyes of an Iranian teenage boy named Lateef. His devotion to a person he barely knows leads him to the choice that will change his life forever. Academy Award nominated ("Children of Heaven") director Majid Majidi delivers a heartbreaking story of unrequited love. "Baran" won the Grand Prize at the recent Montreal Film Festival.
Thanks, Harry!
No, no, Ian... thank you.
Right now, the normal, average people of the Afghan are trapped between us and the Taliban, witnessing the first stage of our retaliatory strikes, and refugees are pouring out of the country. Here's a chance to get a look at the human face of the Afghans and gain some small understanding of who these people are to whom we are all so suddenly, unexpectedly connected. This is one of the ways in which film is not just impressive, but also important. It allows us to experience each others cultures in an immersive, empathetic way. Film unites us. If you're in New York, enjoy this opportunity, and write us afterwards to tell us what you thought. I'm jealous I won't be there.
"Moriarty" out.
