Hey folks, Harry here... Well looking over this report from 'Scabby Doo' I don't know how much of it to take seriously. First off, Scabby seems to have some serious issues with Rick Rosenthal, the director... However at the same time the film seems to have lots of problems which will take quite a bit of work to fix. BUT then again, a HALLOWEEN 8 wasn't a very good or promising idea anyways. I mean... didn't they end it with Myers getting his head cut off in the last one? I mean doesn't that do it? Ok ok ok, I know, I am asking for logic in a Horror film. Sigh... Here ya go....
Some Inside news from the very troubled HALLOWEEN 8 production. A friend of mine worked as a ________ in Vancouver,B.C. this past summer. I recently talked to him on the phone. From what I gather we will be lucky to see this flick go straight to video.
Dimension is so unhappy with this pile of crap it looks like weeks of reshoots were ordered to be shot in january.On top of that Rick Rosenthal may leave the production. And since John Carpenter isn't here to save his ass (Halloween 2 anyone?) Expect by the time this is released for the film to either get a new director listed in the credits, or for Alan Smithee to be tagged onto it. This will be Rosenthal's 3rd Alan Smithee tagline. I can't believe Akkad hired this wanna be director after what happened with Halloween 2. A lot of people don't know that Carpenter directed most of the best stuff on that film because Rosenthal just couldn't handle it. (What do we expect from the the guy who made RUSSKIES!) The only thing Rosenthal even did for that film was some great hallway shots..And still how much creative and incredible direction did that take?
It's ashame that one of the greatest Horror films has been milked so much over time. I thought when Dimension took this franchise over that they would treat it with care. Seriously look for this to go Straight to video in the spring. The film is terrible, Even Carpenter couldn't save this crap...Rosenthal has the biggest ego for someone who sucks at his job so much. From what I hear it's basically his fault that the new Halloween 2 dvd was cut from being a Special edition. Evidently he was demanding too much and being a hard ass to Universal. He was talking about the production on the commentary..Talking about the shots he planned out (the shots he never directed)..Universal decided not to deal with this guy..And just released a bare bones DVD. This guy is a for hire Tv director at best..
Rosenthal seems to screw over every film he undertakes..It makes one wonder how this guy continues to work..He screwed up Halloween (what was left of it) and threw away his only shot and ever doing a commentary track (Do you really think Russkies,The Birds 2 aka Alan smithes The Birds 2 or anyone of his many tv gigs will ever be put on a DVD with commentary?)..Enough people have screwed over Halloween..And now Rosenthal has ended it..Atleast H20 got the film back on track somewhat..Whatever steam Akkad was burning with H20..Rosenthal has watered it down and pissed on it..
Infact my friend tells me Dimension called Jhon Carpenter to see if he would consider doing the reshoots..He simply laughed..Say what you will about Carpenter, But at least he had great ideas on the direction of halloween. I would have rather seen more follow up's more like Halloween 3 than the crap we have had to undertake.
Halloween 8 will end up like Dimensions many other Dead horror franchises..They will continue to beat this dead horse..and haunt the video shelves unrented and unpromoted.
