Crazed Fan Gets Hold Of RUN RONNIE RUN!!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

Sound like Olaf struck gold here, kids. And he's damn happy about it. Nice of him to at least share his impressions of the film, even if he's going to keep his pwesents all for himself. What's even worse is that there's still no firm release date for the movie. It's been tentatively set for "Spring '02." It can't come out soon enough for most fans...

Dear Sweet Harry,

I have recently, as if by an act of the almighty himself, came into possession of a copy of the finished Run Ronnie Run. A friend has a friend and so on, you know, the typical lineage of such an object. I remember the day like it was two weeks ago. My friend was holding a video tape and grinning from ear to ear. I was scared the top of his head would fall off. He was giddy I tells ya, giddy with excitement, like a school girl that just discovered her cell phone vibrates.

He began to ask me what I thought was on the tape, trying to build up a sense of suspense. After several misguided attempts, he couldn't hold in his excitement any more, the heavens opened and a beam of light shone down upon the tape as I read the label. Was this a cruel joke, was it some caffeine induced vision, could this be the very thing I have waited so long to see? I grabbed the tape and said many expletives in disbelief. I was holding in my hand the Holy Grail. The wait was over. It was our time to shine. We called upon the crew that night and watched in awed reverence.

I must preface this review with my stance on Mr. Show. I think Mr. Show is the funniest sketch comedy show since Monty Python. I am a huge David Cross and Bob Oedenkirk fan. You may think that will taint my review, but it does not. I always go into a movie that I am really looking forward to with a tad bit of reserve. I don't want to see something I have built up so much be horrible or not as good as I had hoped. That means that I watch things I love with an even more critical eye then anything else.

Quick summery. I hate spoilers so I am not going to give any, except stay for the credits. Run Ronnie Run is the classic tale of rags to riches. Ronnie is a white trash beer guzzling miscreant that gets arrested a lot. His girlfriend is fed up with his behavior and dumps him for good. Dammit I don't want to tell anymore you'll see it when it comes out anyway.

On to the review. I have to say I was a little leery when it began. I am used to the fast paced 22 minute episodes on HBO. They cram so much into one show you are exhausted by the end. When the fact that it wasn't an episode of Mr. Show, but a movie finally sunk in, I felt a little better. Movie pacing is generally a slower because there is more time to develop the story and characters.

I have to say there were a couple of things I thought were bad choices. There is a survivor parody, that I didn't think was that funny, and will date the movie. The film is narrated by one of the characters, and it seem to get in the way more then move the story along. I wish they would have played more then just the main characters. That is the best thing about Mr. Show, all the very funny characters they play. If there were any more things I didn't care for I missed them because I was laughing to much.

Run Ronnie Run is one of those great films that has 100 things you and your friends will be quoting for the next year. If I am repeating dialogue from a movie days after I saw it, I know it was great. I have already watched it about 4 times and plan to watch it more. I can't wait to shell out my money and see it on the big screen. There are so many classic lines and funny scenes that you have to see it more then once to catch everything.

This is a definite must see for all the fans, and a great film for those who have never even heard of the show. You don't need a Ph.D. in Mr. Showology to see it. The film is it's own entity. I can't recommend this film if it hurts when you laugh, or you are allergic to comedy or funny things, because this film will kill you.

OLAF

Hey, Olaf, not even one mention of my searing portrayal of "Guy In The Yellow Shirt Standing Behind Scott Thompson and Overacting Badly"? I poured my heart and soul into the role... researched it for months. I hung out with a guy who overacts badly and studied his every move. I'm crushed, man. I expected you to get the early Oscar buzz started, but nooooo...

"Moriarty" out.
