Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
Sometimes you miss something in the inbox. With me, it happens all the time. Someone sends you something, there's a ton of other mail, and a week later, you're cleaning out the inbox, and you stumble across this cool little something you overlooked the first time. In this case, I got a letter from a reader with a link to the trailer for a Japanese horror film trailer called KAIRO.
When I finally clicked the link and managed to decipher the website I found there, I was rewarded with a creepy, effective little trailer that would, under normal circumstances, be something I presented without any sort of context or preamble. Thanks to our first Talk Backer, I now realize this is the film PULSE that got reviewed earlier this week here on the site.
In this case, though, I hesitated. I really hesitated. I tested the link out on our chatters to see what they thought. And in the end, I decided to go ahead and post it, but I want to warn you... if the events of the last week have left you rubbed raw, don't click the link right now. There are two images that have unfortunate echoes with recent reality. This link was sent to me well before the events in New York and Washington unfolded, but I didn't check it out until tonight. When I did, this quietly effective little trailer became much more eerie, literally getting the hair on the back of my neck to stand up.
In the end, I leave this in your hands. You're adults. If you think the imagery won't bother you and you're curious about the film, please follow the link. If you are still sensitive to any extreme visuals, then please don't follow the link.
Either way, I'm curious to see if KAIRO is in line with the other recent interesting Japanese horror films like AUDITION or RING or ST. JOHN'S WORT. The trailer certainly makes it appear to be the case.
