BOSTON: G-Man looks at Mamet's THE HEIST!

Hey folks, Harry here with a report on Mamet's THE HEIST which has just finished screening at the Boston Film Festival in... well, that's kinda obvious... A new Mamet movie with sharp wit is exactly what I need to go to a theater and watch right now. The trailer was fantastic, and we need a long run of GOOD movies right now to break up the monotony of emotion... At least I do. Here ya go....

Checked out Heist at the Boston Film Festival. I am sure everyone can guess at the basic plot, so I won't go into it here. All in all, this was a great caper picture. The dialogue was definitely the most easily digestable that Mamet has ever written. Gone are the staccato deliveries found in House of Games or The Spanish Prisoner. Damn fine dialogue in both, I am just saying it is different in Heist not necessarily better. Also, some of the COOLEST lines ever written are delivered by some great performers. Ricky Jay by far has the best lines, but the characters Mamet has written for Gene Hackman, Rebecca Pidgeon, Delroy Lindo, Sam Rockwell and Danny DeVito are all finely wrought and just dripping with sharp, SHARP dialogue. Rebecca Pidgeon, in particular, was an outstanding femme fatale.

In the Q&A after the picture, David Mamet mentioned how this was a throwback to the old Warner tough guy movies of the 30's and 40's. He went as far as to use the b&w Warner's logo and the old music at the start of the picture. It was great to see this sort of update on the "'dem, 'dose and 'deese" movies. I will admit, the movie dragged a touch towards the end but it was definitely an excellent piece of entertainment as well as having some weight to it, something that I am just know considering as I write this.

I hope everyone enjoys this one when it comes out, my friends and I did.

Thanks for the great work, Harry. I'll try to write in tomorrow with Hearts in Atlantis and the day after with Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Good luck to all in these coming days. Hurt none and help some.
