Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
I remember back when Chris Gore's FILM THREAT was still a magazine, and was doing so well it actually had a sister magazine that was devoted entirely to animation. For some reason, I'm drawing a blank as to what that magazine was called, but it had some great issues, including a special devoted almost entirely to REN & STIMPY. In that issue, there's was material about THE RIPPING FRIENDS, which was still actually a proposed feature at that point. Gore later turned that material into a chapter of his book, THE 50 GREATEST MOVIES NEVER MADE.
All of that was several years back. So it's a delight to actually see now a report from someone who's seen the first few episodes of John K's upcoming animated series. I hope this thing is great. It's been too long since he's had a show of his own. Tell me this brief e-mail doesn't give you some hope, and I'll call you a heartless grinch unfit to live with decent folk.
Hey Moriarty.
I just thought I'd let you know that the creator of Ren & Stimpy has a new cartoon coming to FoxKids on Sept. 15th at 10am PT and 11am ET called Ripping friends. It's already showing here in Canada. I have seen two episodes, and it is so good. It is a manly man cartoon about manly men. One character has a lot of Kirk Douglas in him. Fitting since he's so manly. They are all 36 years old (the manliest of ages) except for Chunk, who is 35 and a half. I guess this is why he sleeps with a teddy bear. They have no superpowers and they don't want them. They think it's pretty wussy to need superpowers to beat up a evil villian. They are also pain junkies and feel disappointed if they don't come back from battle feeling like crap. It's great. Finally a good cartoon that adults can get into. I hear that Fox is hyped about it, and if it does as expected, it may even go primetime. Funny thing is that here in Canada it's shown in primetime on Teletoon, and it comes with a Canadian 14+ tv rating, yet in the US, it's geared toards little kids. Having seen it, it will appeal to both.
I'm not sure if your in charge of the Coaxial News, but I see you post there a lot. I think the average AICN reader would be into this. Thanks.
Vicconius
I hope they are, Vicconius, and I hope the show catches on. Anything that keeps Spumco working is a good thing in my book.
"Moriarty" out.
