Let's take a gander in these GODZILLA soundstages and see what we can see!!!!

Here is Goldfinger's review of ORGAZMO. From the makers of SOUTH PARK, so beware. Auric wasn't to hot on this one though, as he was on Starship Troopers. Read and judge if you will follow in his path, or take a different route. There are plenty of spoilers here.

I just got back from the test screening of ORGAZMO in Granada Hills. Before I share my thoughts with you all, I want to quickly say that while this movie was very very funny, it was not what I was expecting.

Given that this is a movie written, directed, and starring Trey Parker (of "South Park" fame), I had high hopes for a hysterical, in-your-face, insulting, demeaning, and all around fun movie. What I got instead was a movie which while being very funny, insulting, etc., felt old.

Yes that's right - felt old. It felt like I was watching USA Up All Night where they show a really cheesy movie with lots of sex and toilet humor hosted by Gilbert Godfried. Except we didn't have Gilbert Godfried, and the sex was minimal. Which is kind of surprising for a movie whose plot revolves around a Porno film.

Trey Parker plays Joe, a Mormon who is trying to spread the word of Jesus around Los Angeles. During one of his housecalls, he accidentally calls upon a house where a porno shoot is going on. He is attacked, and defeats the entire security team. So, the director is impressed - and offers Joe a job. Now comes the moral dillema - Joe is a Mormon (who is engaged) and can't engage in sex. But the director offers $20,000 to Joe, (who wants the money so he can marry his fiancee in the Church in Utah), so he accepts - and they provide a "stunt-cock" to fill in for his on the "penetration" scenes.

Of course, there's always a catch - Joe becomes famous, and he doesn't want his fiancee to know what's really going on. Meanwhile, there's some bizarre plot about a Japanese man who thinks he's black, and some Mob-esque connections trying to take over his Sushi restaurant.

Whatever.

The movie was entertaining enough to allow me to totally throw the plot away. Which was probably for the best, since the plot was so thin that Kate Moss would feel fat standing next to it.

This movie has a bountiful plethora (don't you just LOVE that phrase?) of phallic symbols. I haven't seen so many phallic symbols since I looked at the cover of A LITTLE MERMAID. ;) You get over it after about 20 minutes, but it still provides laughs. Many funny characters in this film, especially Matt Stone (also of South Park) who seemed to provide the "comic relief" in a movie which was full of comedy. (Matt was at the screening, but kept a low profile with the rest of the suits in the back of the theater.)

And I do have to say that for an R rated movie (at least, I'm expecting it to get an R) about the PORNO INDUSTRY, there is almost NO NUDITY. Anytime they were about to show a woman's breasts, a naked man's butt would come into the frame and we'd miss out. And yes, that's basically the extent of the nudity in this film - men's butts. Wahoo.

One thing which was very apparent (and more or less confirmed at the focus group meeting - which I managed to be a part of!) was that this film is more or less geared for males of the age 14-21. And it shows.

This is not a movie to RUN to go see. TITANIC is a movie I would run to see. This is a movie to see when you're drunk off your ass on a weekend and have nothing better to do. Given what Trey Parker has been able to give us through SOUTH PARK, I had high expectations for this film. I was let down, but that isn't to say I didn't enjoy the movie. I just hope that the next film he does is geared towards an audience which is not composed of the lowest common denominator.
